Dinodiner is an environment project incorporating storytelling, depicting a diner where a birthday party has gone awry. The project included a 2D design phase with a concept art illustration, followed by 3D production in pairs, where we realized the concept of another student.

DINODINER

2D Production

Initially, each student created a 2D concept art based on the brief. Then, in pairs, students exchanged their works to model the 3D scene of another student's concept. The brief was specific: it was to depict an 8-10 year old child's birthday party in a contemporary American diner, interrupted by an imaginative disruptive element. No science fiction, characters, vehicles, or fabrics/draperies were allowed. A plant had to be included, and the entire project needed to adhere to PEGI 12 guidelines (no blood, weapons, bullet impacts, etc.).

I faced challenges in finding an original and impactful idea while adhering to the brief. After several tests and conceptual dead ends, I decided to focus on a more theoretical, particularly historical, approach to create a solid and credible foundation for the narrative.

The modeling was semi-prescribed: we were provided with three diner models of different shapes and had to choose a camera angle. As I had not yet defined the narrative framework, I initially focused on framing to experiment with lighting and blur effects.
